D.C.M. REPORT: Submitted by: Tim

Hi Everyone,

I was lucky enough to attend the joint Archives workshop last month and found myself intrigued with Mark M, from OK; his participation and obsession with archives is way beyond what I could have imagined.  His work with past grapevines is amazing.  I also learned that one of my old meeting places, 2218 in Mpls, is the longest lasting AA club, starting in 1942 and still going strong in the old Washburn mansion, originally owned by co-owner of GM corporation (I hope I have that part right).

AA started in Detroit Lakes in 1949.

Here is a story that most of you know:

One day a man was painting his rather large house and after considerable work had been done he decided to go drink.  Upon return, he stood back to admire his day’s accomplishments and saw pigeons crapping on the fresh paint, so he proceeded to start shooting them.  Well, the cops came and arrested him.  Now, in front of the judge, two men stood and said they were from the Oxford Group and that the court should remand this gentleman (Ebby) to them - and that's just what happened.  In return, Ebby sat with bill in his kitchen at Stepping Stones in Akron, OH and talked about how he had found Religion.  This story never fails to touch my heart, and thanks to the Archives workshop for giving me a bit more of the story!!

I also attended the Area 35/36 workshop that was also held in St. Cloud last month; Thanks Audrey for a great job hosting this event!  New this year was a DCM sharing session that was very good, and I hope that it will continue!!

The presentation from our webmaster Ed was very informative, however; I was disappointed that area 36 was not involved in the presentation.

I also attended the Area 35 committee meeting this month and, as always, had a great time.  Those Alanon people can sure cook up a great mess of food!  I was also reminded that group/district chairs/officer elections are coming up in Sept.  WOW~ were has the time gone!!  Seems like just a couple of months ago the train whistle was blowing.  I don't know what my life would be like without this experience, I have learned so much about AA, service, and about the fellowship.  The back of my Medallion has taken on a whole new meaning, Thank you all for the opportunity to serve as your trusted servant!!

One more food for thought, (not mine): The recipe doesn't bake the cake!

                   Yours in service, Tim Powers

                              District 3 DCM
